Established in 1981, the Green Millennium Foundation (GMF) is a BC-registered not-for-profit society involved in the education of individuals, groups and communities in the skills of survival and self-sufficiency, both rural and urban, and the promotion of educational and cultural activities and events. Until November 2002, we were known as the East-West Food For All Foundation.
As one way to promote self-sufficiency we have been educating individuals and institutions about worm-bin composting. Cultural events have included the Green Millennium Fashion Show.
In 2008 we launched the "Tackle Poverty Now" program, which aims to give individuals and groups the knowledge and skills to survive and be self-sufficient. In India this will include square-meter vegetable gardens, mushroom production, crafts projection, compost production, micro-credit, forestry, and local produce marketing. In our initial year of this program in Canada we will be seeking partner communities, organizations and ways to inspire efforts in Canada by cross-fertilizing the values and approaches used in India to suit Canadian circumstances of poverty.
Please check out the information below. More will be added soon regarding the "Tackle Poverty Now" program as we move forward.
